KENDRA UPDATE: 19th January 2020

This Sunday filled with Dasta sessions, with baalako of all ages working and playing together.

After a very energetic Vyayam session and Gujarati classes, we had a brand new Spiritual session with yoga for the whole Kendra. Two young beno rose to the challenge of leading the singing in Prathna, bhajans and dhoons.

Our teenage workforce organised a series of activities to show baalako how tackle the biggest problems in the world today. The baalako were grouped in their Dastas, with 11- and 12-year-old Dasta Nayaks leading the younger baalako to complete the challenges.

Each dasta tried to complete an obstacle course to get an idea of the obstacles people face when migrating. We also had a cooking class to tackle world hunger, and each baalak got to make a piece of mithai by themselves.

Our workforce designed an escape room to show us the challenges of escaping poverty. And baalako also took part in a debate about the different types of education children access around the world and its importance in their lives.

Baalako were excited and keen to learn throughout day and despite the freezing weather, the energy levels across the whole Kendra were absolutely fantastic.

"We played Games and we did teamwork in that. And we made mithai - it was fun when you had to feel for the coconut and milk," said Riyaben, aged 7.
